The Assistant Estimator will work closely with the Chief Estimator and the Estimating department on competitive design-bid-build and design-build bids. The Assistant Estimator will be responsible for writing scopes, performing takeoff, and managing scope/communication
with subcontractors associated with Divisions 4-14 with a focus on Divisions 10-13.
Review project documents and develop subcontractor scopes of work for multiple projects at a time.
Coordinate with subcontractors to review scope, answer questions, problem solve, negotiate, and ensure proper coverage for each project.
Perform quantity take-offs, summarize quantities in estimate file, and draft pricing for self-perform work.
Attend project site visits and pre-proposal meetings.
Analytically review project documents to develop well-written RFIs and identify potential scope gaps and design omissions.
Attend industry networking events, subcontractor networking events, and individual subcontractor office visits / lunch meetings to develop and maintain relationships.
Coordinate with the estimating team to ensure each project is properly scoped and coordinated among all trades.
Assist operations and purchasing departments with change orders and proposal development.
Prepare for bid days by attending review meetings, preparing y-sheets, reviewing proposals and coordinating with subcontractors. Review scopes with all subcontractors prior to bid day.

A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction field.
have extensive knowledge of the construction industry
have strong capabilities in reading and understanding construction documents
understand the processes and sequencing of construction and be able to provide constructability input into the estimating and bidding process
Experience using construction software such as Procore, Newforma, and Blue Beam
Experience in the Metro Washington DC area
Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture or construction management.
