Description/Job Summary

The BIM Manager understands planning and technical attributes of construction and integrates meaningful information with advanced BIM applications which may include 3D laser-scanning, building information modeling (BIM), Asset tracking and BIM integration, 4D construction project scheduling, 5D construction cost estimating, mobile field operations management, and related virtual design and construction solutions.

The position requires a high degree of interaction with project executives, project managers, project engineers, and superintendents throughout the company, and with corporate staff in Operations and Preconstruction.  The position reports and works under the day-to-day supervision of the BIM department head.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Manage a team of BIM Engineers to facilitate, implement, and train BIM on multiple projects.
  • Support construction project teams by using BIM technology to facilitate the use of composite models in coordination meetings and maintain the identification and resolution of clash reports from spatial coordination software.
  • Coordinate with the project team to facilitate design changes in the field have been documented and are updated in the BIM in a timely manner.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the technical flow of data with designers, multiple contractors and/or field personnel.
  • Perform additional virtual construction tasks to support construction management duties, examples include: supporting Jobsite Safety Program, supplementing Quality Management Processes, Permitting, Production Planning efforts or Document Control.
  • Develop construction sequencing materials, simulations, and animations for use in pre-construction planning and business development efforts.
  • Perform model-based quantity takeoffs and constructability reviews for design and construction.
  • Develop ongoing model based reporting, including overall schedule based 4D modeling and detailed sequence models to aid project teams in communicating construction activities.
  • Work closely with the IT department to ensure BIM initiatives are carried out.
  • Assist with laser scanning operation, processing and analysis.
  • Develop and deliver company wide BIM training for PMs, Superintendents, and Project Engineers.
  • Attend and participate in industry events for company BIM Outreach when required.
  • Perform and provide leadership to cost estimating from BIM models.  Be subject matter expert for 4D and 5D BIM concepts.

Required Skills

Skill of learning new software/hardware as need to perform job duties.  Motivated to find solutions using VDC/BIM concepts and technology.

Preferred Skills

Preferred skills in: Bluebeam, Autodesk 360 Glue and Field; Tekla BIMsight; Newforma Project Center; Oracle Primavera P3/P6. 

Required Experience

A minimum of four (4) years of experience in building design and construction or experience implementing design and construction information technologies.Must have experience with software applications related to the BIM Manager realm of knowledge and proficiency includes: Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit Architecture/MEP/Structure, and Navisworks.  

Must:
  • Have the ability to use and trouble shoot advanced VDC software and midlevel hardware
  • Have the knowledge of Laser scanner operation and analysis. 
  • Be capable of managing own time and communicating schedule to others.  

Required Education

Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
